Char-Broil Portable Grill2Go X200

It’s designed to take a beating and will keep on grilling through it all.

While this is true for other grills on the list, durability often comes at a higher price.

But that’s not the case with this grill.

The frame also includes legs, which is another nice addition for the grill’s excellent price tag. And ensures that this grill securely sets up wherever you decide to camp.

And the latches on the cast aluminum firebox secure the entire cooking grate if you have to step away for a moment.

It also relies on a small propane tank for fuel, meaning you won’t have to buy expensive fuel to get reliable heat with this grill. And since the cost of fuel can really add up, it’s great to have a grill that doesn’t need a lot of it.

Output Power

In terms of output power, the Char-Broil Portable Grill2Go X200 ranks in the lower-third amongst our absolute best grills but we still awarded the Char-Broil Tru-Infrared grill an 8 out of 10 for output power - a pretty good score.

All the grills on our list ranked very well here, and we’d be splitting hairs to say anything bad  about the X200.

Char-Broil Grill (Grill2Go X200)

The main burner is rated for 9500 BTUs, which is plenty of power for all your camp cooking needs.

Not only that...

The grill’s one-pound propane tank easily screws into the fuel hose on the side of the grill.

Although it doesn’t offer quite the output power of other grills, this model does offer TopNotch reliability when it comes to starting.

It’s equipped with a push-button ignition, which makes it easy to start without any added tools, and without having to break out the lighter or a box of matches.

Unfortunately, our testing trip wasn’t long enough to see how long the starter works before needing replacing (a common issue with camp stoves).

And if you’re in search of grills with more output power?

Please try the Blackstone Table Top or Napoleon TravelQ 285 grills, which are both rated for 12,000 BTUs of heat output.

Control

Temperature control is another area where the Char-Broil Tru-Infrared grill stands out in our review...

There are a few things that really impressed us about the X200 on this front.

For starters…The cooking grate is made of stainless steel, which retains heat evenly across the entire surface.

And that heat stability is reinforced by the Char-Broil Tru-Infrared cooking system, which reduces flare-ups and the singing or burning that comes with them.

In fact, it’s important to note just how bad flare-ups can be when you’re cooking your grub: it’s not great when your food burns or ends up undercooked, and flare-ups can cause both at the same time!

The top of the lid is mounted to the outside of the grill, where you’ll find a temperature gauge that further allows you to monitor the grill’s internal temperature.

When your beautifully cooked food is on everyone’s plates, you’ll be glad you opted for a grill with great temperature control.

Portability

Among all the grills we had the chance to review (just one more excuse to buy steaks), none offered better portability than the Char-Broil Tru-Infrared grill.

The latches on the front of the grill serve to hold the lid of the cast aluminum firebox in place while in transit.

Char-Broil Grill (Grill2Go X200)

You also won’t have to carry around a separate bag of wood chips, which means less mess and more efficient cooking.

When ranked against other grills made for car camping, the Char-Broil Portable Grill2Go X200 Tru-Infrared grill is extremely lightweight and compact.

It weighs just 20 pounds.

It also has the fairly compact dimensions of 23.7 inches by 15 inches by 13.6 inches, and the die cast aluminum firebox that encases the grill also keeps any leftover food remnants from spilling out while you’re traveling.

And finally…

Cool Touch heat resistant handles allow you to pack it up faster than other grills, which means the Char-Broil Tru-Infrared grill won’t slow you down!

Cooking Area

The Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 Tru-Infrared grill offers 200 square inches of cooking area.

Which sounds like a lot.

Among the best grills for car camping, this actually has a relatively small cooking area.

That said…

It’s still enough area to grill up to eight burgers at a time, and probably 4-5 steaks.Inside the cast aluminum firebox, this grill has a drip pan below the cooking grate.

This makes it much easier to clean than many other camping grills.

Now, if you’re looking for grills with more cooking area…

Go ahead and check out the Smoke Hollow or Cuisinart CGG-501 propane grills.

Wind Resistance

Wind while cooking impacts temperature control and fuel consumption, and it can also cause issues with producing evenly cooked food.

But wind is no issue with the X200, thanks to the fully enclosed cast aluminum firebox.

Char-Broil Grill (Grill2Go X200)

Unlike flat table top grills with no cover, you’ll be able to close the lid to keep heat in and the wind out, and even cook your food a tad faster.

The latches on the lid also keep the cooking area secure so that accidents are less likely should you have to step away from the grill.

Conclusion: Char-Broil Portable Grill2Go X200

In our review of the best Tabletop Grills, we found just one we were confident awarding the Best Value Grill on the market for 2026.

Other grills may have offered more cooking area or output power, but none of them did so at such a great price.

If you’re looking for a portable car camping grill at an affordable price, this one's for you.

And that’s largely due to the durability and portability of this Char-Broil grill.

Other grills also didn’t offer the safety features that come with the Grill2Go, namely latches on the front of the grill to keep everything secure and reduce the likelihood of accidents.

If you’re looking for a camping grill that’s

  • Durable
  • Portable
  • Safe
  • Affordable

Look no further than the Char-Broil Grill2Go X200!

Now get out there and make yourself some tasty tuck!
