Looks are important.

Right?

The suitcase-like design of the Wolf looks smart and it’s built to handle rough outdoor environments.

The good thing about inverter generators is smooth power delivery. The Wolf generator also packs advanced features to ensure a steady voltage supply.

The 4-Stroke petrol engine delivers the right level of fuel economy. In addition, there’re safety features like overload protection and low oil shutdown.

There’s also the “econ” switch for fuel economy.

But more about that later.

Bonus feature - the generator provides 12v battery charging advantage.

Yes, you heard that right.

The Wolf generator definitely won’t win any awards in terms of performance but one thing’s for sure.

It’s a steady machine.

Moreover, economical fuel consumption means you can run it all through the night if you need to.

Strictly speaking, when you consider the low price, the Wolf generator does give good value for money.

Still, it wasn't able to beat the Wen 56200i generator, our winner in this category.

Output Power

With a running wattage of 700W, this generator is best suited for campers who aren’t needing a lot of juice really.

The peak power of 800W is on the lower side too.

Our view: it’s between 450W to 600W, that the product hits the sweet spot.

Wolf Generator

Clearly, you can’t expect this small petrol generator to power up any heavy equipment.

However, you can run TVs. small power tools and lights with it.

With the “econ” switch turned on, the Wolf generator will automatically adjust the speed after sensing the load.

Now that’s a cool addition to maximize fuel efficiency.

There’s one thing though…

... the portable generator took some time to adjust with the load when this mode is turned on.

The 2.1-liter fuel tank can run for six hours at half load.

We kept a few LED lights on the RV running all through the night and it didn’t skip a beat.

The simple truth is, your power needs will probably vary. If you’re using it strictly for camping, the Wolf fits the bill.

But if you want a generator to support your RV or as a backup for your home during power cuts, you will have to look elsewhere.

In that case, the Champion 3800W generator is our top value for money recommendation for you.

Durability & Workmanship

One thing’s for sure.

This model from Wolf proves it’s not just the top brands that can deliver the best portable generators with TopNotch durability.

With a weight of just 9 kgs and a compact shape, the overall portability is superb.

Wolf Generator

With a weight of just 9 kgs and a compact shape, the overall portability is superb.

It doesn’t take up much space, so storage wasn’t an issue for us at all.

I’d have to say that the build quality is TopNotch and the feedback we got from long-term users is mostly positive.

The cool thing is…

This 800w generator comes with anti-vibration feet. That’s one great feature that even the higher-priced generators sometimes lack.

Another excellent addition is the low oil shutdown system. It’ll simply shut off the motor if the oil levels fall below the safe limits.

If you look at the overall workmanship, the product is easy to use. The control panel is well labeled which makes it very simple for first-time users.

Now, it’s not on par with the Honda EU2200i in terms of overall workmanship. .

Actually, some of our reviewers commented that the Wolf has an indestructible feel.

But the Champion 3800W generator had the upper hand when it comes to robust quality.

In the end, the product ended up at the higher end of this metric just below our winners.

Dependability and Reliability

At the heart of the Wolf generator lies the Wolf 2.6HP 4-Stroke Petrol Engine.

In reality, this engine is the main reason behind the generator’s good power to weight ratio.

After we used it during our weeks testing trip, we were fully satisfied with the engine’s performance.

What about connectivity?

You’ll get one 230V 13Amp socket along with a 12V 4Amp DC output.

We never faced any issues with the recoil starter - it never took more than a couple of pulls to get going. Long-term users told us it works well even in freezing conditions.

Here’s the most important part.

The Wolf offers automatic voltage regulation and the output frequency range is very stable. So it’s among the top generators in our list for running sensitive electronics safely.

Next, all the main components of the generator are easy to reach.

This is one easy-to-maintain product.

Suppose you overload it, then what?

Not to worry. The excellent overload protection feature will activate an electronic breaker to stop the engine.

One point we noted…

The generator did emit some black smoke when we accidentally overfilled the fuel tank.

Finally, the rating under this metric placed the generator just below the Honda EU2200i, the Top Pick in our review.

Noise

Would you choose a generator that disturbs a quiet campsite?Didn’t think so.

Now, the Wolf Generator isn’t a loud performer.

However, it's not among the best-in-class generators when it comes to noise suppression.

Wolf Generator

Frankly, the brand could have done better in this aspect.

The product is rated at 58 dB(A) at a distance of 23 feet.

Fair enough, but what if you increase the load?

You see, this is where the generator starts to get noisy.

It starts softly at no load condition, but once the load levels are above 500W, the noise levels break the 60dB barrier.

In our campsite in Joshua Tree National Park, we tested the noise levels at 600W. We could easily hear it from a distance of 25 feet.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the sound levels decrease when you hit the 'econ' switch.

Then again, you won’t be able to run it in that mode for all loads.

At the end of the day, we wouldn’t classify this product from Wolf as a silent generator.

The result: It got a low rating from us under this metric.

Do you have neighbors who are sensitive to noise?

The Wen 56200i generator and the Honda EU2200i are the super-quiet options in this category.

Conclusion: Wolf Generator

This is the part where I get to sum up the pros and cons taken from our Wolf Generator review.

Let me say this straight.

Assuming your power needs aren’t heavy at all, this is a great value for money option.

Choose it for camping, caravanning, and all forms of outdoor events and you’ll be rewarded with a steady and dependable performance.

For sure, it’s not a Honda or a Yamaha when it comes to overall quality. But when you compare the price with the overall quality, this Wolf generator might surprise you.

On top of that, there are excellent safety features, a stable power output, and good fuel efficiency.

Personally, I enjoyed the lightweight convenience and the ergonomic design of the carrying handle.

After carrying around some of the heavier models around the campsite this one proved a bit of a relief.

On the face of it, it does look like one of the best small generators for camping.

But that’s not really the true story.

You see, the competition in this category was tough. So with its low power output and poor noise insulation, it just couldn’t match the performance of the TopNotch Top Picks.

So this is all there’s in this Wolf 800W generator review.

And that begs the obvious question…

Is it the right choice for you?

Time to decide.
