What we really loved were the great features…

To start with, there’s an electric start (for easying stating even in cold climates), a low oil warning system, a power meter, a fuel gauge, and an hour meter.

There’s more.

This inverter generator comes with pulse width modulation technology. That means a clean power supply to keep your electronics safe.

What about portability?

It has four wheels that come with a parking brake.

As if that isn’t enough, you also get options for wireless remote control.

Not to forget, the noise suppression is excellent even at a higher load.

Even with all these great features, we couldn’t place the EF4500iSE generator among the top performers under this metric.

The simple reason is - price.

This isn’t the right choice for those who need a small generator that provides just enough power for charging essential equipment - it's just unnecessarily powerful in that case.

Also, we couldn’t ignore the fact that its weight did limit the portability on our test site.

At the end of the day, it's an excellent generator that offers the right value to a select range of users.

Output Power

Clearly, the power delivery is enough to keep everything in your RV running.

With 4000 Watts of running power and 4500 Watts of peak output, the ef4500ise will power large AC units, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and big screen TV sets.

Moreover, it’s also an excellent choice as a backup power source for your home.

As per the specs, it can run for 15.2 hours at 25% load.

Naturally, we put it to test.

The device comes with a 4.5 gallon fuel tank capacity which is on the larger side.

So we filled it up and ran it between 50% to 60% of the rated capacity.

The EF4500iSE ran for 8 hours without any issue.

A TopNotch performance, to say the least.

And the secret behind this performance is…

The Smart Throttle Technology that optimizes the engine speed to reduce fuel consumption.

In fact, it’s powerful enough to supply two RVs at a time.

Frankly, none of the competition could match up to its smooth power delivery and excellent wattage levels.

The combination of high power output and superb running time makes this generator a chart-topper in this metric.

Durability and Workmanship

The overall design of the generator is one of the best in this category.

Yamaha has packed all that power into a relatively compact size of 30.7x24.3x27.2 inches.

On top of that, there’s the powerful engine that gives superb performance.

End Result?

Fewer vibrations and reduced engine wear.

Note that the engine comes with an electronic transistor controlled (TC) ignition for a really smooth performance.

We loved the electric start.

It’s a super practical feature that makes the start-up process incredibly easy.

Next, you get the combination of the easy-to-read power meter and an hour meter.

In addition, there’s also a gauge to check the fuel level and calculate your refueling intervals.

Heading for colder climates?

The automatic choke will make it easy to start on cold mornings.

Lastly, there is an oil level watch warning system.

All in all, it offers total peace of mind no matter where you use it.

But, there’s one problem.

The dry weight of the generator stands at 194 pounds.

Frankly, it’s not a piece of kit you’ll be handling alone in a hurry (unless deadlifting’s a favorite hobby).

Even with the twin bars for lifting and the wheels, it isn’t the right choice if you’re looking for lightweight convenience.

And another thing…

At this price point, we would have liked to see a remote control added.

Finally, when compared with the lightweight convenience of the Honda EU2200i or the Durostar ds4000s, it couldn’t hit the top ranks under this metric.

Dependability and Reliability

Obviously, the overall dependability of Yamaha products is indisputable.

And the best part is…

The Yamaha EF4500iSE Generator comes with a 3-year warranty. Now that’s what we call a promise of long-term reliability. The durability of the engine and low oil consumption make it a reliable choice for off-grid trips.

Also, the low fuel consumption means you won’t need to carry extra fuel for long trips.

Not to forget, the generator also meets CARB emission regulations and matches the highest EPA norms.

There’s a full range of safety features including the AC protector, circuit breaker system,  and an overload indicator.

The output power delivers a clean sine wave (making it cleaner than household electricity) that makes it perfect for smaller, more sensitive electronics.

News Flash: Yamaha boasts the power is even cleaner than your household supply!

In terms of connectivity, it offers duplex 120V 20A and a 120V 30A ports.

One minor drawback- it’s not RV ready.

Point to be noted: You need to keep the battery charged all the time so as to keep the electric start functioning smoothly.

To sum up, Yamaha did a great job, but in terms of overall reliability, we found the Honda EU2200i slightly ahead.

One step better, the Yamaha EF2000iSv2, with some unique features stood a notch higher in this list than its older sibling.

Noise

When it comes to noise suppression, this Yamaha portable generator isn’t far behind our Top Picks.

Now, the official noise level ratings stand at 58dB to 60dB. Note - Yamaha doesn’t specify the corresponding wattage. But it does have a noise block in the form of an enclosed engine design.

The low engine speed ranging between 2600 rpm to 1000 rpm means the noise is kept to a minimum.

To make things even better, there’s the excellent casing design that muffles the noise and in effect creates a noise block.

Likewise, the low vibrations of the engine also minimize noise at higher outputs.

We tested it in three stages.

Firstly, at 25% load, then at 50%, and lastly at 80%.

In the first two tests, the Yamaha EF4500iSE Generator noise levels were below the 60dB mark.

Finally, when the load reached the higher end, the noise went above 60dB.

At this level, it was clearly audible from a distance of 23 feet.

That said, we have to admit the designers did a great job with their noise reduction system.

To sum up, if you need noiseless performance, the Honda EU2200i or the Wen 56200i generator are the best options.

Do bear in mind though that their power output is less.

For the right balance of high wattage and low sound levels from the sound reduction system, the EF4500iSE is definitely a top choice.

In case you’re on a lower budget, the Champion 3500W generator is another great option.

Conclusion: Yamaha EF4500iSE Generators

Here’s the bottom line…

The Yamaha EF4500iSE Generator is a fantastic machine.

Features like the inverter technology and the smart throttle mechanism will give you clean power delivery while minimizing fuel consumption.

On top of that, you get a range of practical features like a digital power meter, hour meter, automatic choke, and an oil watch warning system.

Let’s not forget that 4.5 - 5 gallons of fuel can last for nearly 15 hours - even so, you do need to keep an eye on the fuel level gauge.

Now that’s a performance that’s hard to beat.

It turns out this generator is heavy on two fronts - price and weight.

And that’s why it couldn't rise to the TopNotch Top Spots.

In short, it's an excellent choice when you have a generous budget and you need high power output.

So, we've provided all the answers - now it’s your turn to make your choice.
